We are happy to share that Rutledge Elementary has been recognized as a Lighthouse School of Academic Distinction. This is such an amazing recognition for our school as we are one of only 600 Lighthouse Schools in the world! In fact, Rutledge has been recognized as one of the top academically performing Lighthouse Schools multiple times.

The Lighthouse School Designation is awarded to schools that excel in fostering leadership at every level. Through ongoing staff development, a focus on student-led learning, and strong family partnerships, our school works to create a thriving leadership culture. Rutledge students practice leadership skills in real-world settings, track their progress, and contribute to school innovations, all while working toward shared goals. The result is a school environment where leadership is visible, heard, and felt in every aspect of the community.

What is Leader in Me?

The Leader in Me program, based on FranklinCovey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, is a whole-school transformation process designed to equip students with essential leadership and life skills.

At its core, it encourages students to view themselves as leaders of their own learning, while also fostering a school culture that promotes collaboration, communication, and personal accountability. By integrating leadership principles into everyday activities, students not only learn academic subjects but also develop skills like goal-setting, teamwork, and problem-solving — preparing them for success both in and outside of the classroom.

As a parent of a student at Rutledge Elementary, you can expect to see your child actively participating in leadership roles, whether through student-led events or daily decision-making in the classroom. The Leader in Me process also emphasizes creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive, empowering each child to recognize their unique strengths and contributions. This holistic approach helps schools foster a community-focused culture that benefits students, teachers, and families alike.

To learn more about the Leader in Me program and how you can support your child at home, you can visit the official Leader in Me Parent Resources page, which offers guidance on incorporating leadership principles into everyday family life and will reinforce the skills your child is learning at school.

The Rutledge Elementary PTA helps to fund the continuation of Leader in Me on campus. It truly is a way of life on here and in the community!
